I don't get it. First, they re-design Strawberry Shortcake, then Dora the Explorer, and now Rainbow Brite! I've had it. I remember loving Strawberry Shortcake as a kid. Why did they have to go and fuck up her image?! Come on! These characters were initially great because they looked like kids--like little girls! Now, they look like pre-teens--wearing makeup and straightening their hair. I would like to think that Strawberry Shortcake would NEVER straighten those lovely red curls of hers. Why can't we let children's characters/cartoons look like children and not miniature grownups? I would be even more fucked up had I grown up with a sexified Strawberry Shortcake or Rainbow Brite. God. What are we teaching young girls?: always straighten your hair, wear a lot of makeup, wear tight-fitting clothes, and on and on... Why can't we let children's characters look like children? Isn't that the point? If not, shouldn't it be?
