Since I recently moved, I've been riding the train a lot more than I ever have before. This has provided me with various smiles, oddities, and annoyances. One particular annoyance is a specific advertisement that I see often, and continue to be frustrated by. The add says, in bold font, "Help Us Solve the Mystery Behind Learning Disabilities." Now, maybe the organization is a good one, and it helps people, etc, but I really can't stand the wording of this statement. I have a learning disability, which I've written about before on Girldrive, and let me just say, it's not a mystery--people just learn differently! It's a normal occurrence!

I don't understand this whole, "Ugh, learning disabilities are so odd, and we don't know what they are" shit. Just because most of us have trouble learning from a McGraw-Hill textbook, doesn't mean we're stupid, or "mysterious."

The problem is not learning disabilities--the problem is the one-size-fits-all method to which learning is usually done.
