Anju (L) and I

Anju (L) and I

Hello dear readers (anyone out there?) I know I haven't blogged in a long time, BUT part of that was because I was in San Francisco for a whole week! I left Wednesday, July 3rd to visit my best friend who has lived out there for 4 years. It was my first time seeing SF and seeing the West Coast! I touched the Pacific Ocean, woohoo!!! Anyway, I did a lot while I was there (some I know I'm forgetting), so I'm going to try to recap everything here.

My bestie, Anju, lives in Noe Valley--a very family-friendly neighborhood. She has an amazing view from her upper deck of the city. On July 4th, we went to Land's End National Park. We hiked around (so tiring!), and then had a picnic right by the ocean! I was able to see the Golden Gate Bridge from the trail, so that was incredible! It was probably the best 4th of July I've ever had. I did get super sun burned, though. Ouuch.

After the picnic and hike, we stopped at Beach Chalet for a drink. I got a very intense cocktail called, Sage Press--a blend of gin, sage leaves, sugar, ginger, and lime juice. It was very good, but as someone who rarely drinks, it was SUPER strong :)

Jellies!

Jellies!

The following day, on Friday, Anju and I went to the California Academy of Sciences where I saw some amazing jellyfish, seahorses, and an albino alligator!

Bettie Page store

At some point, we went to Haight-Ashbury where I did a little shopping, sat in a cafe, and saw the rad Bettie Page store. On Saturday, we took the ferry to Sausalito, and along the way I saw Alcatraz. Sausalito was nice, but mostly just very touristy and rich.

After heading back to SF from the ferry, Anju and I went to the Guerrilla Feminism meetup at Caskhouse. We met three amazing feminists and talked about various issues, including Robin Thicke's ridiculous music video. I wish I had a picture of the first ever GF meetup!

Crepe in Japantown!

Crepe in Japantown!

One of my favorite places was Japantown. Anju and I got these delicious crepes! They had: strawberries, nutella, whipped cream, and a scoop of French vanilla ice cream on top. I want one right now! We also ate at a great ramen noodle restaurant, too. On a different day, we went to Kabuki--a Japanese-style communal bath/spa. It was so relaxing. There was a sauna, steam room, hot pool, cold pool, water with lemon, water with cucumber, tea, etc! It was $25 for as many hours as you want! I had never been to place like this, and it was a very relaxing, freeing experience.

The Women's Building

The Women's Building

I saw the notorious Women's Building, and its beautiful mural. I went to The Castro district for dinner and to see some stand-up, and also took a yoga class from Anju at The Yoga Loft. The studio was gorgeous.

my last night :)

I'm so happy that I was able to go on this trip. It was great to hang out with my good friend in "her" city. I hope I can someday return the favor :)
