I live my life pretty soberly–no drinking, no drugging, etc. It has been difficult at times explaining this to people, or hanging out with people who do take part in this behavior. Tellings someone, “I don’t drink because I was raped by an ex who used alcohol as a way to weaken my defenses” isn’t always something I feel I can say (if ever). (more…)

Many of you know that I really dislike summer. I hate the heat, the stickiness; I even hate the abundance of sunshine (I know what you’re thinking). Summer seems to give me a lot more anxiety as the added heat reminds me of how my body feels when experiencing a panic attack. It’s not a fun time. My contraception use is out of the bag!
1 MayAn article about women who have stopped taking the birth control pill came out today on Buzzfeed. The author, Amy Odell, interviewed me via phone a while ago for the story. So, go ahead and check it out! The lovely and important, Jaclyn Friedman is also quoted. I love that she said this:
Friedman argues that women need to worry less about the convenience of their male partner. ‘We have to create space for women to think that sex can be for them and on their own terms,’ she says. ‘The idea that birth control should inconvenience men not at all is sort of inherent in how we as a culture do straight sex.’
Thoughts on Unemployment
8 MarI’ve been unemployed since early January. I’m receiving Unemployment benefits and have recently applied for Food Stamps. I practice yoga every day. It all doesn’t sound so bad, but life is becoming pretty isolating. (more…)
