Lately, I’ve been trying to incorporate something my friend (and yoga teacher), Diana, once said to me. On one of my previous posts about body image, she commented:
The self talk that works best for me–especially on bad days–is that ‘I appreciate my body.’ If I can’t muster up “I AM F-ING HOT” or “I am beeeeautiful!” or “DAMN my legs have got it goin ON,” then I just try to remind myself how much I appreciate my body for getting me around every day and allowing me to be here–even if the here sucks at the very moment. I’m taking a Kundalini yoga workshop once a week, and it’s amazing. I practice so much vinyasa flow that I sometimes forget about other kinds of yoga! This workshop is a great way for me to expand my yoga and meditation practice.
2. 1902 French Women Trading Cards
These are awesome. Released in 1902 by a French trading card manufacturer, these photos were meant to showcase women and their potential careers. Seeing as how it was the 1900s, the lack of sleeves on the women’s outfits were meant to be titillating.
I liked sloths way before they were “in” In my high school social studies class, I used to nominate people to be “Sloth for a Day”–i.e. do nothing (I was weird, shut up).
So, because I’m taking part in a “Yoga for Emotional Wellness” workshop, we have little “assignments.” These assignments range from journaling to practicing pranayama and asana. (more…)
I’m going to be doing a “Wellness Cleanse” through the yoga studio I attend. It consists of eating healthy (mostly veg. or vegan) and then doing liquids for three days (broth and smoothies). Throughout it all, we have meetings to talk about our feelings and all that glorious stuff. We also have restorative yoga classes, as well as vinyasa classes that we will be taking. An “Intuitive Healer” is coming and we’re also touring the Whole Foods in Lincoln Park, which is amazing and enormous. (more…)
Because I’m a Pitta, I can be very competitive, which, as most of us know, is the opposite of what yoga is about. For example, I have trouble taking Child’s Pose sometimes in between postures–I work to push myself in competition with others (and myself), which I don’t like. (more…)
